High school students in Taiz Governorate (southwest of Yemen) held a protest today, Sunday, demanding that the Ministry of Education reverse its decision not to calculate cumulative grades, which caused many of them to fail.

The protesters in the event, which was held in front of the local authority headquarters on Jamal Street (in the center of Taiz city), raised banners demanding a review of the high school results and a reversal of the decision, which they said they did not know about until the results were released.

The students considered the decision to cancel the cumulative average unfair to them, as it affected their grades and caused many of them to fail.

It is noteworthy that the secondary results announced on Thursday showed high failure rates for students in the governorate, after the ministry did not calculate the cumulative grades for the first and second semesters of secondary school and the midterm exams for the third year of secondary school, estimated at (50% of the total grades) for students who obtained less than 25 points in the final exam.
