Yemeni parliamentarian and businessman Sheikh Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar confirmed that the decision announced by the US Treasury to impose sanctions against him and nine of his companies will not deter him from continuing his support for the Palestinian cause.
This came in a statement he published on his social media page, two days after the US Treasury announced imposing sanctions on him for allegedly supporting the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.
The statement said, "This unjustified decision is another example of the blatant American bias in favor of injustice and occupation, and expresses an illegitimate attempt to criminalize the modest legal and humanitarian efforts that I am making in support of the just cause of the Palestinian people."
He added, "This decision contradicts all international norms and laws that affirm the right of peoples to resist occupation and achieve freedom. It also reflects the frustration with the efforts that I and other free people are making to support human rights and reject injustice in Palestine."
Sheikh Al-Ahmar reiterated that "his efforts are fully consistent with the laws, positions and commitments of his country, Yemen, and the noble Yemeni people towards the Palestinian cause, and with the principles stipulated in the United Nations Charter, international law and decisions of international courts."
He held "the US administration responsible for its rejected and condemned decision, and the resulting damages that may befall him, his family, and my business," stressing that "he will take the necessary legal measures to appeal this decision before the competent judicial bodies," stressing that it is "an unjust decision and not based on any legal or moral basis."
