Yemeni parliamentarian and businessman Sheikh Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar confirmed that the decision announced by the US Treasury to impose sanctions against him and nine of his companies will not deter him from continuing his support for the Palestinian cause.
This came in a statement he published on his social media page, two days after the US Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions on Sheikh Al-Ahmar due to his support for the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas.
Al-Ahmar considered, "This unjustified decision is another example of the blatant American bias in favor of injustice and occupation, and expresses an illegitimate attempt to criminalize the modest legal and humanitarian efforts that I am making in support of the just cause of the Palestinian people."
He stressed that "this decision contradicts all international norms and laws that affirm the right of peoples to resist occupation and achieve freedom." It also "reflects the frustration with the efforts that I and other free people are making to support human rights and reject injustice in Palestine."
Sheikh Al-Ahmar reiterated that "his efforts are fully consistent with the laws, positions and commitments of his country, Yemen, and the noble Yemeni people towards the Palestinian cause, and with the principles stipulated in the United Nations Charter, international law and decisions of international courts."
In this regard, he held "the US administration responsible for its rejected and condemned decision, and the resulting damages that may befall him, his family, and my business," stressing that "he will take the necessary legal measures to appeal this decision before the competent judicial bodies," stressing that it is "an unjust decision and not based on any legal or moral basis."
Al-Ahmar said: “I affirm that this classification will not deter me from continuing my steadfast support for the just Palestinian cause, and I will continue, God willing and with His help, to stand by the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle against the occupation and against its horrific crimes that have stirred the human conscience and produced an unprecedented international solidarity movement that included all countries of the world, and exposed the claims of Western powers and their boasting about respecting freedoms, after the world witnessed their harsh suppression of the honorable solidarity demonstrations and sit-ins of broad categories of their citizens in Western cities and universities.”
He stressed that "solidarity with the Palestinian cause is not a crime, but rather a human and legal duty imposed on us by moral principles, heavenly laws, and international covenants. The Palestinian cause is a cause of freedom and justice, and it is one of the most prominent human rights issues in the modern era."
Sheikh Al-Ahmar expressed his thanks and gratitude to everyone who expressed their support for him and their rejection of this unjust decision, stressing that “this solidarity reflects the rallying and belief in the importance of the struggle for just causes, foremost among which are the issue of Jerusalem and Palestine.”
He pointed to these difficult moments that Gaza and Palestine are going through, as they are exposed to a continuous war of extermination led by the Israeli occupation, with unlimited military and political support from the United States of America and some Western powers.
He referred to the horrific scenes of destruction and death in Gaza, where this war claimed the lives of more than 150,000 martyrs and wounded, and displaced nearly two million Palestinians from their homes.
Sheikh Hamid Al-Ahmar stressed that “these aggressive practices did not only target individuals, but also destroyed the infrastructure, sought to erase the Palestinian identity and existence, and have encroached and continue to encroach on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, for the sake of defending which all sacrifices are worthless.”
