On Thursday, security forces affiliated with the Transitional Council formations intercepted the sheikh of Socotra, “Issa bin Yaqut,” in front of the airport gate and prevented him from traveling, under the direction of the pro-transitional governor of the governorate, Raafat Al-Thaqli.

A local source told "Yemen Shabab Net" that soldiers affiliated with the security belt formations led by the so-called "Muhammad Fa'arhi", on Thursday, intercepted "Ibn Yaqut" in front of the Socotra airport gate and tried to kidnap him.

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, added that Sheikh Ibn Yaqut retreated from traveling and returned to his home.

For its part, the Socotra Security Committee confirmed Al-Thaqli’s directives to prevent Ibn Yaqut from traveling, claiming that it was “based on several security reasons aimed at preserving the stability and security of the archipelago.”

She indicated, "Two committees were formed on two different occasions to sit with Issa Salem bin Yaqout, but he did not respond to sitting with the local authority," and accused him of incitement against the local authority, tearing apart the social fabric, and sowing discord among the tribes, as she claimed.

The committee stated in a statement on Thursday that the sheikh “did not deny the allegations attributed to him regarding his service with Sanaa, which indicates his cooperation with the Houthi group,” noting that a reconciliation committee had been formed by him, but it apologized for the date of the meeting with the governor.

The committee said that it would take strict measures against anyone who seeks to obstruct the security and stability of the governorate, warning Issa Salem bin Yaqout and the head of the reconciliation committee against continuing to build blocs and shading society, according to the statement.

The governor of the Socotra Archipelago Governorate issued a decision last June canceling the status of the Sheikh of Socotra Sheikhs, and he was accused of serving with the Houthi militia.

Al-Thaqali also formed a committee under the name “Tribal Restructuring Committee,” but it was widely rejected by the sheikhs and tribes of Socotra, noting that it targets the social fabric and dismantling tribes, to serve the UAE’s agenda.
