The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced, on Saturday, the seizure of a large shipment of weapons spare parts at the Shahn border crossing with the Sultanate of Oman in the east of the country.

The Security Media Center said that the Al Mahrah Governorate Police succeeded in seizing a "Volvo trailer" truck while trying to smuggle a shipment of weapons spare parts through the Shahn Port Customs.

He explained that the truck was driven by (M.A.Z.H.A.), 50 years old, who works as a private driver. After searching, five packages of weapons spare parts were found, amounting to approximately 3,975 Kalashnikov automatic weapon spare parts.

He pointed out that this seizure came as a result of great effort by the security forces, who monitored the driver's movements and collected intelligence information about the shipment.

The security media reported that the security forces were able to reach the names of other suspects, including (A, M, A, S), (N, S, A, D, D), (M, A, B, A), and (A, A, S), who were arrested and referred for investigation.

He pointed out that the truck and weapons spare parts were confiscated and the accused were detained to complete the legal procedures. This achievement comes within the framework of the security authorities' efforts to combat arms smuggling and enhance security and stability in the region.

For its part, the Yemeni News Agency "Saba" reported that customs employees, in cooperation with the security authorities, were able last Thursday to thwart an attempt to smuggle those pieces, which were hidden within a commercial shipment coming to the country.

The agency quoted the Director General of Shahn Customs, Thabet Awad, as saying that this achievement is a great success for customs employees in combating smuggling, as the necessary measures were taken in accordance with the Customs Law and national legislation.

Awad pointed out that this achievement comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts of Shahn Customs to combat the smuggling of contraband, which also included the seizure of spare parts for drones.

Thabet stressed the keenness of the state, government and Ministry of Finance to train and qualify customs cadres at various ports, which contributed to enhancing efforts to combat smuggling and achieve more accomplishments.
