Marib Dam
The Director of the Marib Dam Project, Engineer Ahmed Al-Arifi, confirmed that the amount of water reaching the dam until today, according to the latest measurement, amounted to 348 million liters 3, while the amount coming out of the dam after opening its gate at the beginning of this week is 3 million liters 3 per day.
This came during the inspection of the Deputy Governor of Marib, Ali Al-Fatimi, today, of the historic Marib Dam and the amount of water reaching it during the past days after the heavy rains that the governorate witnessed.
Al-Arifi pointed out that the process of draining water from the dam will continue for five months during the current wheat planting season to irrigate 7,400 hectares through irrigation canals branching from the main dam and the dam’s diversion dams. He stressed that the quantities of water reaching the dam are within the dam’s safe limits and the dam’s capacity to accommodate more floods is still large in light of the continued water drainage.
For his part, the Fatimid Undersecretary called on the farmers to preserve the dam channels and the water draining from it, considering it a blessing from God, and heralding an agricultural season in the governorate, especially for growing wheat, and strengthening groundwater.
Al-Fatimi stressed that the local authority pays special attention to the Ma'rib Dam in terms of maintenance, extending its lifespan, and enhancing its resilience, as it is one of the sources of water wealth that is the basis of life, stability, and agricultural and animal production.
