On Saturday, a severe wind storm struck camps for displaced people in Ma'rib Governorate (eastern Yemen), which have been crowded with hundreds of camps since the outbreak of war in the country.

Local sources said, "The strong winds caused significant damage to the tents, forcing many families to sleep in the open, after their tents were completely damaged."

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons in Ma'rib reported that all displaced families living in an emergency shelter (tents or nests made of tree sticks) were completely damaged, and some were partially damaged as a result of the strong winds accompanied by dust that struck Ma'rib Governorate.

The Executive Unit urged all humanitarian partners to quickly provide relief to the affected displaced persons, and to move from emergency relief to the more permanent shelter that preserves the displaced people’s dignity and protects them from weather fluctuations.

The number of displaced people in Ma'rib is about two million, and 8,565 families need emergency shelter and 6,000 families need to build housing units, according to the report of the Executive Unit for the Displaced.
