The government announces that more than 5,500 displaced families have been affected in areas under its control in Hodeidah and Hajjah

The Yemeni government announced, in a preliminary statistic, that more than 5,500 displaced families in the districts under its control in the governorates of Hodeidah and Hajjah (west of the country) were affected by heavy rains and the resulting floods.

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps ( Ex.U.IDPs ) in Yemen said in a report issued on Friday that 5,583 displaced families were affected by heavy rains and torrential floods that hit Hajjah and Hodeidah governorates from August 6 to 8, 2024.

The report added that the disaster resulted in heavy losses of life and property, especially among the displaced and host communities, as it affected 2,073 families in 22 camps in the districts of Hays and Al-Khokha in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, and 3,510 families in 61 gatherings in the districts of Midi, Abs, Haradh and Hayran in Hajjah Governorate.

The report noted that 4 deaths were recorded in Hays District, south of Hodeidah.

The Executive Unit indicated that the damage in these affected directorates included 1,724 shelters, 1,708 shelter materials, 1,899 food items, 644 environmental sanitation services, the destruction of 157 homes, and damage to 4 schools, in addition to severe damage to infrastructure, farms and wells.
