Yemen: More than 28,000 cholera cases and 148 deaths in government-controlled areas since the beginning of this year

Cholera cases in areas controlled by the Yemeni government have risen to about 28,600 cases and 148 deaths associated with the disease, since the beginning of this year 2024.

Statistics issued by the Integrated Electronic Early Warning System for Diseases ( EIDEWS ) revealed that the total number of reported suspected cholera cases has risen to 28,615, including 28,596 cases in 12 governorates under the control of the Yemeni government since the beginning of this year.

According to the statistics, Ad Dhale topped the list of governorates in the number of reported cholera/acute watery diarrhea ( AWD ) cases, with 6,008 cases, followed by Aden with 5,746 cases, then Abyan (4,944), Lahj (4,243), Taiz (4,038), Hodeidah (2,233), Marib (653), Hadramaut Coast (301), Al Bayda (199), Shabwa (147), Hadramaut Valley (37), Socotra (27), and Al Mahrah (20 cases).

The statistics showed that out of the total cases reported in areas under government influence, 148 deaths related to the disease were recorded, 43 of which were in Lahj Governorate, 38 in Abyan, 34 deaths in Taiz, 23 in Aden, 7 deaths in Marib, 2 deaths in Hodeidah, and 1 death in Mukalla.

The United Nations announced in a recent statistic in the middle of this month that the number of cases of infection with the epidemic throughout the country had risen to 147,000 cases, most of them in areas controlled by the Houthis.
