Dhamar: Yemen Youth Net - Special
The death toll from floods in the Lower Wasab District of Dhamar Governorate (central Yemen) has risen to 26, while the search for the remaining missing persons continues.
Local sources said on Saturday that the rains and resulting floods that hit the Bani Musa and Wadi Al-Khashab districts in the Lower Wasab Directorate caused the death of at least 26 people, in addition to a number of wounded and missing people who are still being searched for.
The sources added that most of the victims, including children and women, were from the village of Al-Jaruf in Bani Musa district, due to heavy rains and the collapse of terraces and barriers filled with water, which caused a house and a commercial store to be swept away.
According to sources, the torrents of rain damaged homes and lands and closed roads leading to the affected area.
Meanwhile, the Houthi militia authorities declared the two districts disaster areas.
Identical media and local sources said last Friday evening that the torrential rains caused the death and loss of dozens of citizens, including women and children, and swept away a number of homes, shops and vehicles in the area.
Sources reported that the floods caused the roads leading to the affected areas to be cut off, while residents undertook relief operations, recovered bodies, and searched for the missing, despite the continued rains and floods.
