Local sources said that the Houthi militia prevented the export of pomegranates at the beginning of its season, inflicting heavy losses on farmers and exporters.

The sources added that the Houthi militia has continued for several days to prevent farmers from exporting pomegranates and requires them to buy a specific type of packaging cartons in exchange for allowing them to export.

The sources explained that dozens of trucks have been piling up since late last July at several points, especially in Al-Jawf Governorate, after they were on their way from Saada to Saudi Arabia through the Al-Wadiah port, due to Houthi abuses.

Farmers confirmed that the Houthi decisions prohibiting exports led to a significant drop in the price of pomegranates by up to 50%, and warehouses were overstocked with large quantities of the variety, and it became vulnerable to damage as a result of the lack of central refrigerators and major markets to preserve agricultural products.
