The Presidency of the Shura Council called on the Houthi militia to halt the recent death sentences issued against three of Al Mahwit’s sons, denouncing the militia’s politicization of the judiciary in its areas of influence.

A source in the Council said, “The Presidency of the Council is following with great concern the support of the so-called Houthi Specialized Criminal Appeal Division in the capital, Sana’a, for the death decisions issued against three residents of Al-Mahwit Governorate, namely (Ismail Abu Al-Ghaith, Saghir Farea, and Abdul-Aziz Al-Aqili),” according to the Saba Agency.

The source added, "The Presidency of the Shura Council condemns the politicization of the judiciary and its use to meet and implement the desires and goals of the terrorist Houthi militia, and confirms the illegality of these decisions and the bodies that issued them and warns them against proceeding with this option."

The statement indicated, "These practices are a flagrant violation of human rights, and a use of judicial authority as a political tool to take revenge on political opponents and opponents in areas controlled by the terrorist Houthi militias."

The Commission called on the international community and local and international human rights organizations to quickly intervene to stop these political decisions, save innocent lives, and put pressure on the terrorist Houthi militia to respect international laws, human rights, and the right of citizens to life in areas under its control.

The Shura Council called on the competent authorities in the government "to take legal measures against everyone who participated or contributed to issuing such decisions," stressing "the necessity of unifying national and international efforts to restore legitimacy to Yemen and end the suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militias to the Yemeni people."

The previous Sunday, a Houthi court had upheld the death sentence issued by the Court of First Instance in Al-Mahwit, against Ismail Abu Al-Ghaith, Saghir Farea, and Abdulaziz Al-Aqili, after they were subjected to forced disappearance and psychological and physical torture since the beginning of their kidnapping nine years ago.
