Economic conditions forced 263 displaced families to leave their rented homes in Marib and return to displacement camps in the governorate during last September.

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Marib Governorate said in a report issued yesterday, Sunday, that its information provider team monitored the displacement of 263 families, consisting of 1,741 people, from their rented homes to displacement camps spread across the governorate, during the month of September 2024.

The report added that the reasons for these families leaving are due to the deterioration of their economic conditions as a result of the crisis the country is going through, the lack of sustainable sources of income for them, and the threats of eviction due to their inability to pay the accumulated rents, in addition to the weak humanitarian response and the lack of cash assistance projects allocated to displaced families in rented homes.

The Executive Unit recommended the necessity of providing urgent interventions to provide these families with basic needs of shelter, food and non-food items, adopting livelihood projects that provide them with a sustainable source of income, and providing cash assistance to cover their needs.

She pointed out that the displaced families who left their rented homes in Marib during the past nine months amounted to 2,414 families, equivalent to 15,493 individuals.
