Today, Monday, the Specialized Criminal Court in Aden Governorate (southern Yemen) issued a death sentence against two defendants in the assassination case of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Marai Al-Adani.
This came during the verdict pronouncement session headed by Judge Yahya Mohammed Al-Saeedi, in the presence of the Public Prosecution Attorney, Judge Abdullah Lasour, the lawyer of the blood relatives, Saleh Al-Amri, and the lawyer of the accused, Aref Al-Halimi.
The ruling ruled to convict (Mohammed Ali Abdullah Al-Asbahi) and (Khaled Ali Salem Al-Subaihi) of what was attributed to them in the indictment, and to sentence them to death (as a punishment).
Last Monday, the court closed the case after holding five sessions, and set September 9 as the date for issuing the verdict.
Sheikh Al-Adani is one of the sheikhs of the Salafi movement, and the founder of the Dar Al-Hadith Center in Al-Fayoush, affiliated with the Lahj Governorate, in the south of the country. He was assassinated on February 28, 2016, after an operation to monitor his movements, as part of an assassination campaign that targeted dozens of preachers, scholars, and politicians in the neighboring governorates of Aden and Lahj, which are under the control of the Transitional Council supported by the Emirates.
