Houthi leader Taha Al-Mutawakel
The leader of the Houthi coup militia, Taha Al-Mutawakel, occupied the headquarters of the General Federation of Yemeni Medical Professions Unions on Haddah Street in Sana'a, which caused a state of discontent and resentment among the members.
In a statement, the Federation of Professional Unions said that Al-Mutawakel, who was dismissed from his position as Minister of Health in the unrecognized Houthi government, had begun using his previous powers to interfere in the affairs of the Federation and its unions, causing a state of resentment and discontent among members.
According to the Capital Center for Human Rights, the statement denounced these Houthi practices, explaining that Al-Mutawakel is using his previous influence to threaten members and try to impose his authority on them, even though he no longer holds any position in the ministry.
The union called on the relevant authorities to closely monitor the situation, stressing that the violations being committed against the union’s headquarters, known as “Dar Al-Hikma,” may prompt them to take legal action to protect their rights.
The union noted that it will inform the general assemblies of the unions of doctors, pharmacists, and dentists if these practices continue, expressing its hope for the cooperation of the concerned parties to preserve the interests of the unions and their members, and to ensure the protection of the medical sector in the capital, Sana'a.
