The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that it recorded 1.9 new asylum applications during the first half of this year 2024.

The UN organization said in a tweet on the "X" platform, "Regardless of why these asylum seekers were forced to flee, where they come from, and who they are, seeking asylum is a basic human right."

“Everyone forced to flee deserves a chance to find safety and a sense of belonging,” she added.

The Commission had previously confirmed that the number of forcibly displaced people in the world had increased from 59.2 million in 2014 to more than 122 million forcibly displaced people.

She pointed out that wars and conflicts are still the main driver of this human tragedy that the world is witnessing.
