The first economic conference in Taiz
The first economic conference was held at Taiz University today, Tuesday, under the slogan “Local Development as an Introduction to Economic Recovery,” with the participation of 100 Yemeni and foreign researchers and academics, and a large official and academic presence.
The Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Economic Team, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ashwal, expressed his happiness at holding the conference in Taiz, the citadel of the Republic, the maker of revolutions, and the lever of the national project. He congratulated the local authority and the university on holding this conference, which is the first economic conference at the country level concerned with local development as an entry point for economic recovery.
Minister Al-Ashwal called on universities and academies to participate and prepare working papers, stressing that what the country lacks is a partnership between the components of society and state institutions to formulate a strategic framework that ensures the continuity of reform and innovation of economic tools, the development of projects, and the growth of the country’s capabilities.
He said, "As the body responsible for the private sector, commercial and industrial businesses, we will find an opportunity to implement the conference outcomes as an important axis for economic advancement and recovery, and to coordinate with the local authority, the university presidency, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to form specialized work teams, whether at the level of small projects, industrial communities, or investment activities, with the ministry interacting directly with any outcomes that include development in legislation and procedural processes, while being prepared to change government work patterns in line with the conference outcomes."
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, addressed the importance of the conference as an academic scientific event that keeps pace with the deteriorating economic conditions the country is experiencing as a result of the war sparked by the Houthi militias and the cessation of exports.
In the supporters’ speech, Dr. Wazna Abdul Rahman reviewed the successful experiences of partnership between the private banking and economic sectors and achieving successful experiences in the field of small projects and effective partnerships... hoping that the conference will result in strengthening the partnership to achieve sustainable development and economic recovery.
After that, the first session of the conference was held, and it included the presentation of research and studies related to the Yemeni economy axis, the current situation, recovery opportunities, the Yemeni banking sector, macroeconomic stability, the local development axis, institutions, economic development, community participation with universities, community development, marketing, the public sector, universities and development, as well as the presentation of 53 studies and scientific research during the first day of the conference, which is held over 3 days.
