Syria.. 5.5 magnitude earthquake strikes east of Hama city

The National Center for Earthquakes in Syria reported that an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck east of the city of Hama on Monday/Tuesday night, according to the Syrian regime's news agency (SANA).

There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.

The Jordanian Seismological Observatory recorded the earthquake's magnitude at 5.4 on Monday evening, indicating that it struck northern Syria.

The observatory said in a statement that the depth of the earthquake reached 10 kilometers below the surface of the earth.

Local residents in Aleppo city and its countryside said that hundreds of thousands of families in Aleppo city and its countryside left their homes and went out into the streets after feeling the first earthquake that occurred at 11:30 local time, followed by a violent earthquake at 11:56 local time.

In the capital Damascus and its countryside, thousands of residents took to the streets after the violent earthquake, and many residents did not return to their homes for fear of other aftershocks.

The northern and western regions of Syria were exposed to a major earthquake on February 6, 2022, which killed and injured thousands and destroyed tens of thousands of homes in the city of Aleppo and its countryside, Hama and Latakia.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences said a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Jordan-Syria region on Monday.

The center added that the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The Lebanese News Agency said that residents of the capital Beirut and several areas in the north felt an earthquake in the region.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Hama in central Syria.

AFAD explained that residents of the southern states of Turkey felt the earthquake.

Residents of the occupied Palestinian territories also reportedly felt a 5.2-magnitude tremor.
