Today, Tuesday, the Central Bank of Yemen branch in Lahj governorate closed a number of exchange facilities that violated the process of buying and selling local and foreign currencies in the Yafi and Al-Muflehi directorates, for not officially obtaining licenses to practice the profession from the bank branch in the governorate.

The Yemeni riyal continued its collapse against foreign currencies today, recording 2032 riyals to the dollar in unofficial evening trading, without any actual government action to address or stop the collapse.

A UN report said that the Yemeni riyal lost 26% of its value within a year in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government, warning of a further decline in the currency throughout the country due to the ongoing banking crisis.

The war that has been raging in Yemen since 2015 has not only divided Yemen politically and militarily between the internationally recognized government based in Aden and the Houthi group that controls Sanaa and northern Yemen, but the division has also extended to the financial and economic sector, which has also witnessed a division that has had negative effects on the population.
