Those affected by the torrential rains in the old city of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) complained about the Houthi militia authorities’ disregard for their suffering, which has continued for months.
Human rights sources in Al-Mashnah District said that the Houthi militia authorities continue to ignore the appeals of the residents whose homes were damaged in the old city and have not provided them with any solutions despite the passage of months since the disaster.
The sources added that despite the formation of several committees to identify the damaged homes and the necessary needs, the militia did not provide those families, estimated at dozens, with anything worth mentioning.
The sources reported that the militia, after continuous follow-ups, was satisfied with distributing a number of "tarpaulin" blankets to some of the affected people, which were provided by relief organizations.
The sources indicated that a number of those affected left their demolished homes to go to their relatives' homes in the city, while many of them continue to live in their partially damaged homes amid ongoing threats of new collapses and difficult conditions they are suffering after losing and damaging most of their furniture.
The heavy rains and resulting floods that hit the governorate during the last rainy season caused significant damage to a large number of old and historic homes and those close to flood channels, in addition to recording deaths and injuries in a number of the governorate’s directorates.
