The family of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Bani in Shabwa called on the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to return the case to its correct track in the competent civil judiciary, and said, "The ruling issued harmed the family and is unjust."
Sheikh Al-Bani was killed by gunmen affiliated with the Shabwa Defense Forces on the morning of Eid al-Fitr, April 21, 2023, with direct gunfire, during the Eid sermon in Bayhan, Shabwa, eastern Yemen. The local authorities began the trial of the killers and issued a verdict that the family considered unjust and covered up the real killers.
In a letter to President Al-Alimi - seen by "Yemeni Youth Net" - the family demanded an investigation into what happened and holding accountable all those involved, near or far, and anyone proven to have had a hand in tampering with our case, and that justice be served to them, they receive their punishment, and the applicable legal procedures be applied to them.
She also stressed the necessity of holding accountable the armed groups that threatened the family before the Court of Appeal. According to the letter, “They previously threatened the family in the Ataq Primary Court, and this threat to liquidate and kill us was repeated. We consider this a report of the threat and hold them responsible.”
The family stressed its right to carry out various activities and exercise our legal and constitutional right to convey our voice to the competent authorities and achieve justice and retribution from the perpetrators.
In the letter, the family said, “Our son was unjustly killed by our enemy on the morning of Eid al-Fitr in a bloody, heinous scene that everyone witnessed and denounced. The Ataq Primary Court issued a ruling to execute one of the accused and imprison the rest of the accused. We went to the Court of Appeal and were surprised by its ruling, which violated all applicable laws and exceeded all expectations.”
She continued, "We have raised the camp that was set up to demand justice at the request of the Chairman of the Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and we have given an opportunity to the judicial procedures that have not been fair to us so far, especially after the issuance of the appeal ruling, which we consider to be clear injustice and unfairness against us and our martyred son, Al-Bani."
