The Iranian Fars News Agency confirmed that the assassination of the head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, was carried out by a missile that struck his residence, destroying part of its roof and windows.

She added that investigations confirmed that Israel planned and carried out the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

The New York Times said that American officials secretly admitted that Israel was the one who assassinated Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran, yesterday, Wednesday.

The newspaper explained that the American officials spoke despite the fact that Israel did not announce responsibility for the assassination and refused to comment on the incident publicly.

The newspaper quoted an American official as saying that planning to assassinate Haniyeh in Tehran took months and intense monitoring of the building in which he was assassinated.

The official - whose identity the newspaper did not reveal - added that the device that targeted Haniyeh was detonated as soon as he was confirmed inside his room in the guest house.

Israel denies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is ready for any attack targeting it, while the occupation army claimed that it did not launch any air strike on Iran on Wednesday, where Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated.

Netanyahu said - in a statement - “Israel is at a very high level of preparedness for any scenario, whether defensive or offensive... Any aggression against us will entail a very high price... Those who attack us, we will attack them in response.”

Before that, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari claimed - Thursday - that the army did not launch any air strike on Iran or any other country in the Middle East on Wednesday.

He said - in a press conference - in response to a question about Haniyeh's assassination, "We did not attack Iran by air."

On Thursday, Iranian Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri said that the response to the assassination of the head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, is “inevitable and that the Zionist entity will regret it.”
